A1: I have worked in the human resources field for over 30 years. I was the Senior Human Resources Director of a real estate company, responsible for formulating and executing the company's HR strategy to support the business. It has been a rewarding and dynamic career. My journey began as an HR trainee, where I was introduced to the foundational aspects of HR management. Over the years, I progressed through various roles, gaining invaluable experience and insights that eventually led me to my current position.

A2: I started as an HR trainee after graduating from City University with a major in business administration. Eager to learn and grow within the industry, my early years were spent understanding the intricacies of talent acquisition, employee relations, and compliance. As I advanced to roles such as HR Manager, I took on more responsibilities, including strategic planning, performance management, and organizational change management. Each step in my career path provided me with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel as an HR Director.
Q3: What are the responsibilities of your current role, and what do you enjoy about it?
A3: In my latest role, I oversee the full spectrum of HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee compensation, talent management and development, employee engagement, performance management, and compliance. I enjoy my career in HR because it allows me to make a significant impact on the organization and its employees. The ability to shape company culture, develop an engaged workforce, and contribute to the overall success of the business is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, the dynamic nature of HR ensures that no two days are the same, keeping the work both challenging and exciting.
Q4: Could you share a memorable professional experience?
A4: One of the most memorable experiences in my career was leading a company-wide initiative to revamp our performance management system. This project involved extensive collaboration with various departments, and its successful implementation resulted in improved employee satisfaction and productivity. Seeing the positive impact of this initiative on both employees and the organization was truly rewarding.

A5: The HR profession is well-suited for individuals who are empathetic, communicative, and strategic thinkers. Being able to understand and address employee concerns while aligning HR strategies with business goals is crucial. Additionally, strong organizational skills and adaptability to changing circumstances are essential traits for success in this field.
Q6: Are there any considerations or limitations in this profession?
A6: While a career in HR can be highly rewarding, it also comes with challenges. Managing employee relations and navigating complex compliance issues can be demanding. Additionally, balancing the interests of the organization with those of employees requires careful consideration and diplomacy. It’s important to be prepared for these challenges and continuously develop your skills to address them effectively.
Q7: How can someone enter this profession, and what are the promotion opportunities?
A7: Entering the HR field typically requires a degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Internships and entry-level positions such as HR Assistant or Trainee roles provide valuable experience and a pathway into the profession. Promotion opportunities in HR are abundant; one can work across different HR disciplines such as recruitment, compensation and rewards management, employee relations, learning, and talent development. HR provides clear career progression from roles like HR Officer to HR Manager, eventually advancing to senior positions such as HR Director or VP of HR. Continuous professional development can further enhance career advancement prospects.
